The Journey Begins....

Okay, so the journey begins!  Gordon and I were super excited about leaving for our trip to Belize on SUNDAY...when we get a phone call to notify us that we will not be able to board the flight that we had obtained using buddy passes!  WHAT?!?!?  Are you serious?!??!   I was so proud of myself because I actually stayed calmed and didn't panic...I simply prayed to Jehovah and called Gordon.  So we had to think really quick, and was able to book a flight to Belize...still on Sunday...but out of WASHINGTON DC!!!!!! What?!??!  How are we going to get there?  Where are we going to stay?!?!?  We started calling and texting, and Jehovah answered our prayers by allowing us to get in touch with Marissa and Mikalyn who said that they would drive us down to Washington DC.  Now, I'm not talking BWI, I'm talking Arlington, Virginia Reagan Airport.  2 1/2 hours drive.  Leaving at 4am!  They did it and we were so appreciative of their love and generosity.  Thanks Mikalyn and Marissriss!

But before that, we have to hurry and prepare to leave like in 3 hours to drive to Harrisburg to stay overnight so that we could drive to DC in the morning!  So we are running around trying to get things in orde that we thought that we had a whole day to accomplish.  My girl Angie, even though she tries to be so tough and act like she doesn't like me, even stopped by to say good-bye!

Gordon and I finally get on the road at about 6:30 pm heading to Harrisburg.  The ride is going well...great in fact...until we get off the highway and all of a sudden the car engine starts to race!  "Gordon what's that?" Gordon, always the calm one responds  "I don't know."  We're five minutes from my parents, the car gets us there but we're not even going to worry about it until we get back...we gotta stay focused!

So the morning comes wayyyyyyy to soon, and we get on the road at 4 am. YAHOO! we're on our way.  Poor Marissa only had two hours of sleep, but Gordon drove and we arrived safely.  Apparently Gordon didn't want Mikalyn and Marissa to go back to Harrisburg, because we hugged and said our good-byes and we head into the airport.  All of a sudden Marissa appears!  "Gordon!  Do you have my keys!"  It was hilarious! (Guess you had to be there LOL!)

We made our way thru check-in (although I packed a few too many Bible Teach books because my bag was over weight LOL).  After a few adjustments I was good to go.

We had a connecting flight in Miami and all went well.  We finally arrived in Belize at about 2:05 pm local time (3:05 pm east coast time).

We made our way thru customs and immigration, and headed over to the cell phone store to see about renting a cell phone, but it was way to much money so we decided to leave...now remember that...remember that I mentioned the cell phone store, because I'll be coming back to that!

So we were able to get a taxi, a really nice driver by the name of Collette.  We called him the 'Mayor of Ladyville" cuz he knew EVERYBODY!  When we drove out of the airport, Gordon noticed that we were close to the area that we just were in December, so he told Collette that we were Witnesses and he start saying that he worked with Witnesses and we mentioned the brother that we were with in December and he knew him and mentioned that he was at his Circuit Assembly this weekend which was down the street.  So of course Gordon asked if he could drive us there, he agreed and even called a brother by the name of Steven Bradley that he was going to buy a sheep from on Monday.  I said "a sheep?" He said "a sheep!"  I said a "Baaaaaa?"  He said yes!  LOL  We were cracking up!

We arrived at the assembly hall and Steve was there at the driveway and we were able to meet him and explain that we were just there in December.  He was a really nice brother, even coming to meet us during his Circuit Assembly.

So as Collette was turning around to leave, we saw him!  Keanu!  This is the little brother the Gordon fell in love with when we visited in December, and Keanu fell in love with Gordon!  Gordon said let me see if he remembers me, so Gordon stepped out the cab and Keanu saw him, he ran into Gordon's arms!  I wish I would have gotten that moment on film!  I hugged him and said, "we told you we would be back!"  He couldn't believe it!

After speaking to Keanu briefly we get in our taxi and head on our way.  Then I thought to myself..."I'm thirsty...I kept a bottle of water in my bag...wait, where's my bag?!??!"  I then said aloud "Collette did we put a backpack in the trunk?"  He pulls over so that I can check...guess what!  You guessed right, no backpack!  I left it at the cell phone store because it was so heavy I took it off my back while we were waiting!  My first thought was my laptop is in that bag!  My next thought was, "oh no!  It's not even my bag I borrowed it from Jenean!"  So we are now ten miles from the airport, we have to turn around to head back, and I'm praying and hoping the whole time that the bag is still in the store!

We finally get back after what seemed like forever, and I run across the parking lot bust into the cell phone store, and before I could utter a word the young man who was working reached down and handed me the backpack!!!!!!  Praise Jah!  I told him that I could kiss him!  (Be quite Mikalyn...I know right now you are saying "I'm telling Gordon!"...well, I already told him!  LOL) Fortunately, Gordon befriends EVERYONE, and so he was talking to this guy on the plane and while we were heading to customs, and that man happened to be at the cell phone store with us.  We think he looked out for us when he realized that it was our bag that was left, because the worker placed it behind the counter!  I was so happy!  But I'll be honest with you it is so amazing how you can go from such a high to a low in a matter of seconds! I got high again, don't you worry, I mean I was in Belize!  LOL!   After that...I did not take my eyes or hands off of that bag!

We then FINALLY made it to the location to take our water taxi to our final destination Caye Caulker (pronounced Key Caulker).  This was our mode of transportation...

Yes, it was an interesting 50 minute ride in basically a speed boat.  The view of the sunset was beautiful though.  But we finally made it!

We took a taxi cab ride to our hotel. Okay, it wasn't like a real taxi...it's a golf cart!  The whole island of Caye Caulker only has 5 trucks that are basically used for construction and deliveries.  The other modes of transportation consist of: golf carts, bicycles or walking...that's it!  LOL  The taxi driver Jose kindly drove us by the Kingdom Hall.  Isn't it cute?

We then finally arrived at our hotel where Fatima who has been wonderful waited for us to arrive and checked us in.  Our room is very simple, but really clean!  I told Gordon that you can tell how clean a room is by how clean the bathroom is.  I mean behind the toilet was immaculate!  The hotel also offers free WiFi, our means of communication since our cell phones don't work here!  We discovered the we can call to the US for free over the internet (thanks Gwen and Henry for that tip), so were able to call to let our mamas know that we arrived safely.  Ya'll please look after my mom, cuz she's a nervous wreck!  LOL

Now we're hungry, and Gordon asked everyone and their grandmom where they would go to eat, so we ended up at a local restaurant, and we are both beatdown tired!

Leave me alone it's been a long day I said! And I don't have any make-up on! LOL

We are enjoying our meal, which was outstanding, and all of a sudden the waiter yells...the moon is rising!  I don't know about ya'll, but I never really thought about the fact that the moon rises!  It was absolutely SPECTACULAR!  I've never seen such!  First of all, the restaurant sits on the water, and in the sky there are a lot of clouds.  Then all of a sudden the clouds started to glow, and then gradually you could see the moon rising from the horizon.  I tried to take pictures, but of course they don't do any justice.  You have to take our word for it!  I was just so amazed by Jehovah's beautiful creation!  I mean artists draw from Jehovah's creation, but each day or night in this case, Jehovah provides a different painting for us!  Awesome!

After that amazing sight, we decided to take a walk.  We were assured that crime is almost non-existent on the island..almost, so we were being careful and cautious.  Everyone who knows Gordon knows that he can be a jokester and talks to everyone, so we met Kenroy who is basically a drifter who sings to earn money and travels from place to place.  We wanted to walk to the Kingdom Hall so he helped us find our way back there on foot.  He told us that we have to get out of the mindset of having to be in such a rush because Caye Caulker is relaxed.  Thus the sign...

Along the way we met Calvin who also help direct us to the Kingdom Hall, this gave us an opportunity to let everyone know why we were in Belize!  We stopped at a gift shop and met Dayani and Rosita.  Gordon entertained them so much that when we were going to leave Dayani who was a young teenager asked us to stay.  I told her that the show would continue tomorrow.

We finally headed back to our hotel room and settled in.  We are beatdown tired, but I had to take a moment to update our blog so that I wouldn't forget any details!  LOL

So friends and family that's it for the day.  Tomorrow we head out in the ministry!  I'll be sure to share our experiences of the day with you again tomorrow night!

Oh yeah...two things...getting eaten up by "no see 'ems" so just applied my Skin So Soft by Avon (thanks Alexia), and second, before applied my Skin So Soft I wanted to take a nice shower....ummmm there's not running hot water!  They even have the hot water knob to mess with your mind and fake you out!  LOL  This is good tho, cuz it will allow me to see if this is somewhere that I could live!  I took a cold shower...I'm still breathing, I survived!  LOL

Good night and thanks for all of the prayers!  Love you all!
